Microsclerotherapy for Spider Veins
It is a simple, non-surgical procedure where a solution is injected into unsightly veins on your legs to make them disappear.
Spider veins are like varicose veins but much smaller. They are thin red or blue lines, close to the surface of the skin. They can look like tree branches or spiderwebs and are varying in size.
Spider veins are innocent but most people don’t like the look of them.
The gold standard in treating spider veins remains sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy is the process of injecting a solution called sclerosant into an unsightly vein to make it disappear. We use a very fine needle which causes hardly any discomfort.
The sclerosant damages the inside of the blood vessel wall, making the blood vessel walls stick together, then undergo fibrosing and gradually get reabsorbed by the body. This reaction is slow, taking at least six weeks, with improvement continuing beyond this time, but the reaction varies between individuals.
You can return to work the next day.
To help prevent possible side effects and get the best results, we advise to wear compression bandages or stockings after the treatment as directed, go for daily walks, stay out of the sun, and avoid long road trips for a couple of months.
Whilst most of the patients experience an excellent clearance of their spider veins, some patients develop new veins over time and would require treatment again.
